I should start by confirming that our motorhome is unscathed by the fire
that occurred at the premises in New Zealand where it is stored. Serendipitously it was moved to another shed
just last Thursday, hours before fire ripped through the shed we had understood
it to be stored in. How lucky are we!
This excellent news was learned on our return from the Poet’s Breakfast
held in the nearby Edge Hotel. We set the alarm for an early rising and were
seated in the large conference room at the hotel before 8 am. For the following
two and a quarter hours we were entertained by an assortment of readings by the
composers themselves, and some reading works of others, some moving but most
very funny, and all very professional. All was peppered with humour, much of it
rather edgy and appropriate for the mature audience.
We could have attended this every morning of our stay here since the
festival commenced last Friday but have been too slothful to drag ourselves out
so early. A shame really when we could have had five mornings of this instead of
just the one.
Back at camp, we picked up the emails referred to above, and I attended
to laundry matters while Chris, to caravan maintenance. We lunched promptly at
midday then drove into Mildura. After visiting the bank and purchasing a replacement
TV cable at Dick Smiths, we drove to our regular park near Nowingi Place and
spent the afternoon once more entertained by the collection of excellent
country singers, all as professional as every other day. It has been an
excellent festival so far and for most, not yet over. but we will finally
drag ourselves away tomorrow morning and head upriver as was our plan when we
first arrived in Wentworth from Broken Hill.
The replacement cable just may have improved the TV reception issues. We
shall see.
